Madi's Fear Factor

Over the last few weeks we have begun to see Madi showing a bit of fear when she encounters certain objects in the house. We didn't think anything much about it at first. However, this weekend her Fear Factor has begun to paralyze her when walking throughout our house. We have a dog, Boo, that is taller than Madi. I would have thought she would be scared of him. NOPE, she's afraid of inanimate objects that are quite docile.

The first thing we found her to be scared of was the litter box sweeper that Daddy uses all the time.

Yes, it's dirty and icky, but it's not going to hurt her. Strange fear.

The next thing we found that scared her was the grabber we use to get socks from behind the dryer.

I can understand this one because Daddy chased her around the room with it. Bad Daddy!

Then, last week I pulled out the vacuum to clean a rug (I know you're all surprised) and she freaked smooth out!!

I know there are a lot of kids that are scared of vacuums. So, this isn't such a surprise. It's loud and big and can be scary.

This one is odd. We are big fan people. We love to have a fan blowing. This week we brought two tower fans down from the attic and put one in the bedroom and one in the family room.

She never noticed the one in the bedroom, but yesterday she found the other one and was unable to leave the family room because it was standing near the doorway. She screamed and cried and sat down on her pillows on the opposite side of the room. We had to move the fan. Now she is afraid of the one in the bedroom too.

Finally, this fear has only just begun. This morning she decided to be scared of my hair dryer. She's been around it all of her short life. Heard it every day. She slept through it when she was a mere babe.

Today, she'd had enough! There was a scream and then she ran out of the room to find her hero, Daddy, for protection.

I guess this is a phase that all kids go through to some extent. It just strikes me as amusing that something can be a part of life yesterday and evoke such fear today.

What will it be tomorrow???
